Before anything else, you can vacuum the old carpet (if there is) to ensure that you do not inhale too much dust as you strip this away. Thick padding can cause the carpet to buckle and form small folds or hills which can cause people to trip on them and ruin the overall aesthetic effect of the carpet. The folds and small hills will also receive more wear and tear compared to the flat carpet thus making it more susceptible to being worn out earlier.

For homes and offices with a lot of foot traffic, it is best to use carpet padding that is not the thickest measure.
